Giving thanks on Christmas

Well, today is Christmas.. and as we all know, Christmas is a great time to reflect on oneself and give thanks for everything in life. This year, I have so many things to be thankful for. I have a wonderful, supportive family that I am extremely close with, great friends, and an amazing job. The thing I want to focus on in this post is my job. Especially lately, I've been realizing how lucky I am to be living my dream job. If you don't know already, I was hired as a reporter for KBZK-TV in Bozeman, MT this past April. If you're reading this and you happen to be in the industry, you are well aware of how hard it is to get a job out of college in this industry. Lucky for me, I couldn't have picked a better station for my first job. Although Montana isn't exactly my ideal state to live in (just because it's so cold..), KBZK has been the most wonderful experience- and Bozeman actually has grown on me a lot! I've learned so much about myself out here also. Anyways.. in June, our morning anchor left for another station in Montana and I was promoted to the morning anchor/reporter position. I could not be more grateful for that. I am 23 years old, just out of college, and am a morning anchor. If that is not something to be grateful for, then I don't know what is. It really hit me yesterday when I was at the airport interviewing people who weren't so happy about delays and cancellations on Christmas Eve. One girl from Atlanta, GA was trying to get home and she goes to the University of Georgia, so of course I had to mention my Florida Gator background and tell her I had only graduated a year ago- so she is only 1 year younger than me. She could not believe that I was already a reporter on a real TV station just out of college- and it really just reminded me of how lucky I am. Although it is something I do often think about, Christmas is a really good time reflect on everything I've accomplished this year. It did take a lot of determination to get here, and I feel like I've come a really long way. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! Be thankful. :)

Journalism at its' finest

So lately I've been thinking about my job as an anchor and reporter, and I have to say, that I could never see myself doing anything else or having more fun while working. As a reporter, currently working in Bozeman, MT, I have been able to do so many fun things that I would never get to do if I were working in another field. Often times I feel that journalism is taken for granted by those who work in the industry. Of course it isn't always as glamorous as outsiders think it is, but for me, it's fun. As they always say, "find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life." Of course sometimes there are days where we all get tired and work a little too long, but in the end it is always worth it, and always fun. Lucky for me, I have the most amazing co-workers ever. Being a morning anchor, I don't really get the opportunity for a social life, but I'm in Montana to work- so the social thing just isn't as important anymore. Plus, with awesome co-workers, the social thing usually works itself out. Yesterday I got to play with alpacas and even got a free pair of socks! :) Being from the south, warm socks in Montana are always a good thing.
